Redskins coach Jay Gruden has touted the offensive line as a strength heading into the 2018 season — it just needs to stay healthy. Anchored by six-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams and 2014 third-round right tackle Morgan Moses, new quarterback Alex Smith has his edges locked down. Right guard Brandon Scherff will go into his fourth year as a starter after being selected No. 5 overall out of Iowa in the 2015 draft.

Assuming the starters get healthy — and right now Williams (knee) and Moses (ankle) won’t be ready for the field until training camp as they continue to rehab from injuries — the turnover figures to occur on the interior. Left guard remains a question mark as unrestricted free agent Shawn Lauvao is not expected to be re-signed. The oft-injured 9th-year veteran has missed 22 games in the last three seasons.
Center Spencer Long signed a four-year, $27.4 million contract with the New York Jets and left in free agency. His successor, Chase Roullier, is already on the roster.

The Redskins haven’t signed a guard in free agency and aren’t expected to select one in the early rounds of this month’s draft. Gruden mentioned at the combine that Arie Kouandjio and Tony Bergstrom could be in the mix at the position. Kouandjio was a fourth-round pick in 2015 and started six games last season, but Bergstrom is currently an unrestricted free agent.
Below we look at the offseason moves, thus far, involving the offensive line and compare the players coming and goin using the Pro Football Focus grades and rankings.
OFFENSIVE LINE
OUT: Spencer Long
IN: No signings
Center Spencer Long departed after being the starter the last three seasons and being selected in the third round in 2014 by Washington. PFF graded him out as the No. 20 center in the league last season. Long’s replacement, however, is already on the roster as 2017 rookie Chase Roullier is expected to win the job in 2018. The sixth-round pick from the 2017 draft (No. 199 overall) was ranked the No. 21 center last season.
