It’s an announcement that has become all too common.
Allen Park Public Schools received another threat, and this time it was deemed to credible enough that school is being canceled on Thursday for all the district’s schools.
Supt. Michael Darga sent out a note to members of the school community Wednesday evening, informing them that the move is being taken as a precaution.
According to Darga, someone wrote a threat of violence on a restroom wall against an unspecified school.
“School officials are working with law enforcement on an investigation,” he said. “Those responsible will face the appropriate consequences.”
Darga also reminded parents and students about the state of Michigan’s OK2SAY Tip Line. It’s a 24-hour source designated to empower members of the community to report safety concerns so that appropriate local personnel can respond.
The phone number is 1-855-565-2729, text to 652729 or you can send an email to ok2say@mi.gov.
“As we have shared in the past, safety and security are our top priorities,” Darga said. “All Allen Park schools, offices and events for Thursday, April 12 are cancelled.”
Allen Park Public Schools have reported several threats over the past two months, with most of them being made via social media.
One exception occurred on March 20 when a maintenance employee noticed a threatening message left in a restroom.
A student was named in that incident, but after an investigation district officials believed that the student was being set up, so no classes were canceled as a result of that incident.
