Black flags were erected in front of houses and streets in several parts of Coimbatore as part of the State-wide agitation called by DMK, CPI(M) and other parties in protest against the Centre's failure in forming Cauvery Management Board (CMB), and the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

Minor tension prevailed in some of the places where the police allegedly demanded protesters and residents to remove the flag.

In Coimbatore city, flags were seen erected in residential areas of Singanallur, Nanjundapuram, Bharathi Nagar, 80 Feet Road and Ukkadam.

At Kottaimedu near Ukkadam, protestors staged a demonstration holding a huge black flag. Marking their protest against Mr. Modi's visit in the State, they released pigeons with paper clips bearing the slogan 'Modi go back' tied to its legs.

At Avarampalayam, DMK and CPI(M) cadres staged a demonstration wearing black dress and holding black flags. On Thursday evening, lawyers blocked a road blockade near Red Cross junction.

In Pollachi, the police detained 50 people who blocked a road and released black balloons into the air as part of the protest.
