A portion of New York Avenue by City Hall in DeLand was expected to remain closed for at least part of Friday after a vehicle struck a fire hydrant overnight Wednesday-Thursday.

The roadway was closed between Florida and Clara avenues Thursday, when crews worked on repairs, which include two concrete panels, city spokesman Chris Graham said.

Temporary detours are in place, Graham said.

"The concrete pads are set to be poured early Friday morning so it is likely the road will be closed through Friday," Graham said. "As it is a state-maintained road, the Florida Department of Transportation will make the final determination when the road is safe to be reopened, but we will pass along that information when the road is reopened to traffic."
