Two caregivers have been charged in connection with the alleged neglect of a 63-year-old woman in their care.

Niagara Regional Police Service were called to a home in Thorold, Ont. in the area of Pine Street North and Townline Road West on Wednesday, when they found a woman who was allegedly being locked in a room against her will.

Police say officers found her in a room at the rear of the house in an alleged "state of unacceptable care and in an abandoned state."

She was then taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The police investigation revealed that the two caregivers, an 87-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, used to run an adult care facility at the location called Hill Crest Manor. The facility closed in 1997.

However, police in a media release said "the victim is believed to have remained in the care of the accused and co-accused after the closure of the facility until the time of the arrests."

"Detectives have concerns that there may be other victims," police say.

The two caregivers were arrested and charged with failing to provide necessities of life. Both are in custody waiting for a bail hearing.

Niagara Police is asking for people who have had family staying with these two caregivers to contact them at 905-688-4111 at extension 4233.
