The Dow Jones Industrial Average came off its intraday peak Thursday afternoon, as the stock market lost some of its momentum. The Dow DJIA, +1.21% had hit a intrasession high of around 373 points just minutes before 1 p.m. Eastern, but has since cut about 100 points from those gains, most recently trading 275 points, or 1.2%, higher at 24,470, still representing sharp gains for the benchmark. The blue-chip average added to its rally in the afternoon following a report that President Donald Trump was asking his advisers to explore the possibility of rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Stocks had already been climbing as investors shifted away from rising tensions in Middle East to coming quarterly results, which are expected to underscore the strength of U.S. business and a recent round of fiscal stimulus, including corporate tax cuts. Separately, the S&P 500 index SPX, +0.83% was up 0.8% at 2,662, while the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.9% at 7,133.
