TIRUPATI: Aimed at exploring investment opportunities, Xiaomi, one of the leading smartphone brands, led its Supplier Investment Summit delegation consisting of 50 plus global Xiaomi component suppliers to Sri City in Chittoor district on Wednesday. The suppliers visited potential locations to establish manufacturing units in the State. They also paid a visit to the manufacturing facilities of Foxconn in Sri City.

Speaking on the occasion, Xiaomi Global Vice-President and Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Jain said that Xiaomi is committed to its growth in AP and the support of the State government has been a big propellant. “Through this summit, we aim to provide access to these global suppliers to invest and expand manufacturing base in India.’’

The objective of the summit is primarily to educate the suppliers about the investment opportunities, local policies and government offerings in the particular States and encourage them to set up manufacturing base in India to promote indigenous production of smartphones and components. The summit will potentially bring in an added investment of over `15,000 crore ($2.5 billion) and create as many as 50,000 job opportunities in India if all global suppliers decide to set up local base in India.

Xiaomi also announced the opening of three more smartphone plants in India in partnership with Foxconn located in Sri City, AP, and a new campus in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu promised to provide required land and other infrastructure to Xiaomi.
