BJP should also hold fast against Unnao rape accused MLA: Mayawati

LUCKNOW: BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday said if BJP had decided to keep a fast, it should have done so against its own MLA who is accused of having raped a young girl in Unnao.

Accusing BJP of making a mockery of the process of fasting, Mayawati said that while fasts are a way for harassed people to protest against the government’s arrogance and irresponsible behaviour, “BJP should also hold a fast against the Unnao rape accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and do so on the banks of the Ganga in Varanasi, which is the constituency of PM Modi. Despite POSCO and other serious charges against the MLA for raping a minor, he has not been arrested and BJP should apologise to the people for the jungle raj in the state”.

She further alleged that by transferring the case to CBI, it had led to questions about the government’s intent in trying to suppress the case, as had been done with the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.
