Ghosal & Dipika in semifinals

GOLD COAST: Saurav Ghoshal and Dipika Pallikal moved into the mixed doubles semifinals in squash at the XXI Commonwealth Games at the Oxenford studios here on Thursday.

The pair tamed Peter Creed and Tesni Evans of Wales 11-8, 11-10 after having won over Sanjay Singh Chal and Aifa Azman of Malaysia 7-11, 11-16, 11-8 in the pre-quarterfinals in the morning session.

However, Harinder Sandhu and Joshna Chinappa failed to clear the round-of-eight hurdle, losing to the New Zealand pair of Paul Coll and Joelle King 11-10, 11-10.

In men’s doubles, Vikram Malhotra and Ramit Tandon booked a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Chris Binnie and Lewis Walters of Jamaica 11-4, 11-10. They topped Pool ‘F’ after receiving a walk-over from Yusif Mansaray and Ernest Jumbla of Sierra Leone.

Pre-quarterfinals: Saurav & Dipika bt Sanjay Singh Chal & Aifa Azman (Mas) 7-11, 11-6, 11-8; Harinder & Joshna bt Zac Millar & Amanda Murphy Landers (NZ) 11-7, 10-11, 11-5.
