CM praise for Sharath & TN’s CWG winners

A Sharath Kamal & Co beat Nigeria in the final to emerge champions in Gold Coast

CHENNAI : In a letter addressed to A Sharath Kamal on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami praised the paddler for bagging gold at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in  Australia. The Chief Minister had also sent letters to Sharath’s teammate G Sathiyan and weightlifter Sathish Sivalingam, lauding the two for finishing at the top of the podium at the event. 

“I was delighted to learn of one more triumph in your illustrious sporting career, a gold in men’s team table tennis event at the Commonwealth Games. Kindly accept my heartiest congratulations on behalf of the government and the people of Tamil Nadu for this stupendous achievement of winning in four Commonwealth Games, of which three have been gold medals,” read the letter.  

“Hon’ble Puratchi Thalaivi J Jayalalithaa had enhanced the financial reward for sportspersons winning  a Commonwealth gold to `50 lakh. You will now be eligible for it. It is indeed heartening to know that you receive your training at the Centre of Excellence for Table Tennis at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (SDAT-AKG Academy) in Chennai, which was set up by the government of Tamil Nadu to promote world-class table tennis players,” the letter added.

“I thank our Chief Minister for taking the time to write to me and for encouraging me,’’ said Sharath.
State youth awardApplications for chief minister’s state youth award should be submitted by April 30. Those between 15 and 35 are eligible. Applications should be submitted to K Premkumar, district sports and youth welfare officer, No 30, East Club Road, Shenoy Nagar.
