The play ‘Chorchayanakhilasaramoozhiyil’ being staged by Narma Kairali
KOCHI:A Class X student is undergoing tremendous mental tribulation. He is taking a retest. After a mix up during his final year board exams when he was accidentally presented with a wrong question paper, he is now forced to take a retest. But he cannot write the exam now, all alone with only invigilators around. The boy finally pleads and says that he would rather miss a year and write the exam next year, along with other students.
The scene is straight out of a drama crafted by ‘Narma Kairali’ which has been cracking up people over the years. Taking a leaf out of the recent dramatic episodes that unfolded after the question paper leak, a play titled ‘Chorchayanakhilasaramoozhiyil’ was staged by Dr Thomas Mathew and group. The play centred around the recent social issues such as the question paper leak, the infamous biology teacher who goes about propagating baseless theories among students, and the eroding social values. These issues were stringed together and made for a grand visual treat.
Every month the Narma Kairali performs a satirical play and sort of holds a mirror to the society calling out various evils that have permeated into society. The plays of Narma Kairali are laden with generous doses of social criticism and will have you in guffaws. This satirical take on social issues is created not just to evoke laughter but to make one think and thereby initiate discussions in the social milieu.
“The play was taken from the perspective of the students across the nation who had to undergo undue pressure following the question paper leak. There is an erosion of values everywhere,” said Mathew who directed the play.
“This is one platform which we can be used to criticise the various social injustices and the emerging threats to society. The plays are rooted in the recent developments in the society. This time we have focused on the recent erosion in values in the various streams in the society.”
The play has a befitting end with the biology teacher who spreads baseless and unscientific ideas on wearing jeans and transgenders being cornered by the women and students who give them a piece of their mind.
