Constitutional literacy for all is must

Every citizen should follow the country's Constitution and law of the land and everyone should have information about the Constitution. There is a need to launch country-wide campaign for Constitution literacy, noted journalist and social thinker Ramesh Patange expressed the views in a special lecture on 'Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Indian Constitution', organised by Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Constitution.

Patange said that we should think over development of the country, putting aside party politics. BR Ambedkar gave the constitution to the country which is for upliftment of every citizen. He said that Ambedkar always believed that Indian Constitution should protect every citizen's interests. The Constitution is the supreme law and all citizens should have respect for it.

“We should understand philosophy of the constitution because its every word has deep sense,” he said, adding that everybody born here has right to live with dignity and equality and the rights have been given by the constitution.

Chairing the programme, University Vice-Chancellor Jagdish Upasane said that Baba Saheb Ambedkar played an important role in making modern democracy. He described necessity of freedom, justice, equality and brotherhood for modern democracy. He said that many labourer organisations and institutions providing jobs to youths were developed thanks to Ambedkar.

University Rector Lajpat Ahuja said that the surname of Ambedkar was given by his Guru. University registrar Prof Sanjay Dwivedi, senior professors and other staff members were present in the programme. Assistant Professor Arun Khobre conducted the programme.
