Governors' conference shifted from Chandigarh to Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi

The annual governors' conference will be held at in on June 4 and 5, instead of which was supposed to host the event on May 19 and 20.

A communication from the was received by the here yesterday, informing about the change in venue for the conference.

The communication sent to by Bharat Lal, to the President, read, "Please refer to my letter dated March 22, 2018, indicating to hold the next Conference of Governors on May 19-20, 2018, at Further, it was requested to arrange the logistics and infrastructure at for the above conference."

"However, it is informed that the Conference of Governors would now be held on June 4-5, 2018, at Rasthrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, instead of Chandigarh," it said.

While, senior officials of the Administration remained tight-lipped over the reason that led to cancellation of the event here, official sources said that issue of closure of the International Airport during the period led to the development.

The conference here was to be attended by 27 governors of states and three Lt Governors of Union Territories. Ram Nath Kovind, Venkaiah Naidu, Narendra Modi, and other ministers were also to take part in the two-day event here.

Notably, no flight will operate from the International Airport here between May 12 and 31 as second phase of the runway repairs will be undertaken then.

The first phase of of the runway repair at the airport was carried out from February 12 to 26 during which the airport had remained shut for all flights.
