Sports: Girls’ soccer, winter and spring track and field.
A 4-foot-11 dynamo, Borges never ever backed down from a foe on the soccer pitch. One of the premier players in the SouthCoast, she scored 23 goals in helping to lead the Raiders to a stellar two-loss regular season and into the Division 2 South semifinals. Borges is a track and field sprinter in the winter and spring. An honor student (3.89 GPA) and a decorated member of DECA, Borges is also is also the inaugural (and to this point only) winner of the GMS Tough Cookie Award. And she somehow finds time to hold down a part-time job.
She was kind enough to answer some questions for The Herald News recently.
HN: What is your favorite sport?
SB: My favorite sport by far is soccer. I have been playing since I was 5 years old and I can never recall a time where I didn’t want to be playing.
HN: What is your best memory from your high school athletics career?
SB: My best memory was definitely my first varsity game as a freshman. I got out on the field and I was so nervous, more nervous than any other game in my life at that point. But after a few minutes I forgot all about it.
HN: What is your favorite fast food?
SB: Chipotle burrito bowls by far.
HN: What is your favorite book?
SB: To Kill a Mockingbird was my favorite book. I read it as a freshman and I liked it because I really never wanted to stop reading it.
HN: What is your favorite movie?
SB: My favorite movie is The Lion King. I know it’s considered a kids movie but it’s something I probably would never get sick of watching.
HN: What is your favorite TV show?
SB: Criminal Minds
HN: What is your favorite non-fast food?
SB: I really like all food but if I had to pick it would be Portuguese steak
HN: What is your favorite restaurant?
SB: Not Your Average Joes! Great pizza and great variety. I love everything on the menu!
HN: What person (dead or alive) do you most admire?
SB: I don’t think I can pick just one person! I admire my family just for supporting me in everything I do
HN: What is your favorite holiday?
SB: I love Thanksgiving because of the obscene amount of food!
HN: What career path do you think you will follow?
SB: Physical therapy
HN: What is your all-time favorite subject in school?
SB: I love history classes! It’s all like one big story and I get to learn about where things came from and why things are the way they are.
HN: Where would you most like to go on vacation?
SB: Definitely Portugal! My family is very Portuguese and I would definitely want to catch a soccer game while there!
