Coimbatore: A 58-year-old man was convicted under the scheduled castes and tribes (prevention of atrocities) act. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment and penalised Rs 7,000 for the crime.

The convict, Aruchamy, a resident of Subbegoundepudur in Anaimalai, is a farmer. In 2014, he was white washing his home. At that time, the lime fell into the neighbouring home that belonged to a dalit woman. She was identified as Eashwari, 39. She went and asked Aruchamy that the paint was falling into her home. Soon, this turned into an argument and Aruchamy told her that he will not just spill paint in her house but also on her. Saying so, he used the paint brush and applied paint on her face and over her. He also used caste names and abused her.
