Cape Town - Bulls prop Pierre Schoeman has his sights set on playing Test rugby - and whether it's for Scotland or South Africa, does not really matter.
The 23-year-old last week signed a three-year deal with Scottish club Edinburgh who he will join after the conclusion of this year’s Super Rugby competition.
Schoeman has been Bulls coach John Mitchell’s first-choice loosehead this season, but does not appear to be in Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus’ plans after he wasn't included among a list of Bulls players who attended an alignment camp in Vanderbijlpark earlier this month.
“I would definitely like to play for Scotland. Someone like CJ Stander did very well for himself in Ireland. It however doesn’t mean I’m lost to South African rugby. The rule for South African players playing overseas will be relaxed and I believe if you’re good enough, then you will play,” Schoeman told Netwerk24.
On securing a move to the Scottish capital, Schoeman told Edinburgh’s official website: "I am truly honoured and excited to join Edinburgh. It's a beautiful city filled with tradition and culture.
"I can't wait to pursue my dreams and give all my effort, time and attention to Edinburgh and its supporters.
"I am forever grateful to the Bulls and its fans and I thank them for their support over the years."
Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill added: "We're delighted that Pierre will join the club next season. He's a young, dynamic prop, who has a big future ahead of him.
"Pierre has shown his quality in Super Rugby and we're excited to see what he'll bring to what is an already strong Edinburgh front-row."
In 2014, Schoeman was named in the South African U20 squad for the Junior World Championship held in New Zealand where he scored against Scotland in a 61-5 group stage victory.
