Murder suspect held in Loni

A 26-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his brother-in-law in north-east Delhi on April 7, the police said on Tuesday. The accused was arrested from Dabur Talab at Loni in Ghaziabad on Monday, they added.

The victim, Atif, was allegedly shot in the head by his 20-year-old brother-in-law Akram around 2 p.m. in Meet Nagar on April 7, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) R.P. Meena said.

Mr. Akram allegedly told the police that his younger sister had married Mr. Atif against the family’s wishes.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he died during treatment, the officer said, adding that a countrymade pistol used for shooting the victim has been seized.

Mr. Meena said, “Mr. Akram and his father Rahisuddin hatched a plan to eliminate Mr. Atif. He called his sister and Mr. Atif for a meeting to settle the issue. However, Mr. Akram carried a loaded pistol to the venue. Mr. Atif and his wife reached the designated spot following which Mr. Akram shot the victim after brief talks and fled.”
