MUMBAI: Fresh extortion cases continue to be filed against absconding
Shiv Sena's Nalasopara corporator
Dhananjay Gawde and
NCP's Vasai-Virar chief
Govind Gunjalkar.
The Virar police registered a case against Gawde after a 42-year-old corporator accused him of demanding Rs 50 lakh for turning a blind eye to an alleged construction between December 2015 and March 2016.
Gawde has so far around six extortion cases registered at different police stations. Gawde is accused of using information sought under RTI to threaten and extort money from builders.
A fresh
extortion case has also been filed against Gunjalkar who is absconding soon after he got bail in an extortion case last month. Gunjalkar allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from a builder to protect his four-storey illegal structure between April to November 2016.
While the Palghar police has so far registered over a dozen extortion cases, Gawde and Gunjalkar continue to evade police arrest.
