Use maize procurement centres, farmers told

Offered ₹200 more than open market price for each quintal

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao called upon the farming community to use the maize procurement centres and sell their produce to get a better price.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a maize procurement centre here on Wednesday, Mr Harish Rao said that six centres — Siddipet, Husnabad, Gajwel, Cheryal, Dubbak and Koheda — were established in the district and farmers are being offered ₹1,425 per quintal whereas the open market price is in the ₹1,200-1,250 range.

“Farmers have informed us that they were losing ₹200 per quintal and hence, the procurement price was fixed at ₹1,425,” said the Minister.
