CHENNAI: India is prepared to face any challenge and there is no shortage of any equipment and ammunition for the armed forces, said defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the DefExpo 2018 (defence expo) here, the minister said her ministry had given emergency powers to the services to decide on the type and amount of equipment and ammunition to be purchased.

The minister said the government would not insist on the services to purchase only indigenous defence equipment though the aim of the government is to make all products in India.

She said the focus of defence expo this year is the participation of Indian companies. “Nearly 75% of the companies that have registered in the defence expo are Indian companies. This is an achievement," she said.
