Female foeticide: ‘Entrust probe to responsible officer’
Hyderabad:Expressing displeasure at the failure of the police in arresting the real culprits who were behind the incidents of female foeticide that took place in Gayatri Nursing Home situated at Singareni colony in IS Sadan area, Saidabad in the city, a division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the city police commissioner to entrust the investigation into the issue to a responsible senior officer to exclusively investigate the case and submit an action taken report before the court. If the commissioner fails to place the report before the court within a week then he would be summoned for explanation on the next date of hearing i.e. April 17.
The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijaya Lakshmi was passing this order in a PIL filed by R Sandeep Yadav, resident of the city, seeking stringent action against the said nursing home and to take steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents which were taking place in violation of PCPNDT Act. (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994).
HC issues notices to defected YSRC MLAs
Hyderabad:A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the respondents - principal secretary to law and legislative department of AP, Assembly secretary and MLAs concerned for filing their counter affidavits in a PIL filed seeking action on the complaints given against the MLAs for defecting into ruling TDP from opposition YSR Congress party. The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by YSR Congress MLAs Alla Ramakrishna Reddy and Palaparthi David Raju seeking to declare the respondent YSR Congress MLAs and MPs who have joined the ruling party in AP state as ‘ineligible’ and for cancellation of the posts of those who were given state cabinet berths after switching their loyalty to the ruling party. They sought their disqualification under the Anti Defection Law.
HC fines petitioner for frivolous PIL against HCA
Hyderabad:Expressing displeasure at filing a PIL on irrelevant issues, a division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday imposed a fine of `25,000 on the petitioner. The PIL pertained to announcement/issuance of a press release by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).The bench expressed its disapproval when the PIL filed by B Chitharanjan Kumar, son of TRS MLA B.Sayanna, came up for hearing.Dealing with another PIL filed by Govind Reddy, the bench said it would examine whether any inquiry by the CBI or any other agency was needed into alleged financial irregularities in HCA. Recalling that the reports submitted by the BCCI and the administrators committee of retired judges had pointed out the irregularities, the bench posted the case to April 17 for hearing.
