SC agrees to hear plea for CBI probe into Unnao gangrape case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Unnao gangrape case allegedly involving Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Bangarmau (Uttar Pradesh) Kuldeep Singh Sengar, said media reports.

The alleged rape victim, whose father died in police custody in Unnao, has levelled fresh allegations against Sengar and the administration saying she was locked and confined in a room by a District Magistrate, said media reports. She alleged that she was first taken to the DM’s residence and then to a hotel where she was kept locked. The allegations were backed by her sister.

Accused MLA Sengar’s brother Atul Singh Sengar and four others – namely Sonu, Baua, Vinit and Shailu – have been arrested in the case so far. The MLA’s brother had reportedly beaten up the father of the alleged victim after he was arrested on April 5 under the Arms Act.

Reacting to the rape allegations and custodial death, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also sent a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the state police chief seeking a detailed report in the case and asking the authorities to ensure no further harassment to the family concerned.

Meanwhile, the autopsy report of the father of the woman, who alleged that BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother Atul Sengar raped her in June 2017, has mentioned: “perforation of the colon” and “septicemia” as the main causes of death.

The report listed 14 antemortem injuries on his body and noted that two of his teeth were recently broken. Fresh injuries were also found on his jaws, suggesting that he was brutally beaten up, said media reports.

The man, who died in Unnao district hospital on Monday morning, was arrested last week and remanded in judicial custody for getting into a brawl with Atul’s aides. Earlier, his family had filed a police complaint alleging Atul led a gang of miscreants who brutally thrashed the man in front of them on April 3.

The autopsy was conducted by a panel of doctors on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in the presence of the Unnao District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police said the reports.

Forensic medicine experts said perforation of the colon – meaning rupture of the large intestine – was generally indicative of severe physical trauma but should be corroborated with external injuries.
