Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is all set to launch a State-level campaign — Meri Dastaar, Meri Shaan — on April 14 on the occasion of Baisakhi to instill pride for the turban among the youth.

The unique campaign, which will coincide with the celebrations of Khalsa Sirjana Divas, will be inaugurated by SAD president Sukhbir Badal.

Besides teaching youth the art of turban tying, the event will also witness turban tying competitions at the district level across the State.

“Turban is not a mere piece of cloth but an article of faith symbolizing self-respect and exemplary courage…As the title of the campaign suggests, the turban is a matter of great pride for every Sikh. It is in our earnest endeavor to instill pride in our younger generation about our distinct identity and promote our rich and glorious cultural heritage,” said Sukhbir.

He said that the mega campaign would not only inspire youth from Punjab to take pride in their turban, but will also provide them an opportunity to showcase their turban tying skills.

“SAD is committed to preserve and promote Punjab’s rich heritage and this is yet another humble attempt in this direction,” he added.

Programme’s coordinator and youth leader Gurpreet Singh Rajukhanna said that the event would culminate with a state level competition in June in which winners of the district competitions would vie for top slots.
