John R. Heisdorffer, 81, of Walford, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Christ Church Presbyterian. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons, Shawn (Patricia) of Westminster, Colo., and Steven (Marta) of Overland Park, Kan.; and one daughter, Linda (Jeff) Purcell of Jacksonville, N.C. He also is survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; and a sister. Winifred.
John was born on Feb. 4, 1937, in Iowa City, the son of Virgil and Mary Hannon Heisdorffer. He married Ann L. White on Feb. 27, 1960, in Harper. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and was a machine operator at Quaker Oats, retiring from there after more than 33 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, and especially the time spent with his beloved family and many friends. John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
