Lightning strike kills woman in Udayapur

UDAYAPUR: A woman was struck by lightning and killed in Simle area of Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-8 in Udayapur district, on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as local resident Krishna Maya Tamang (45). A son of the deceased, who appears to be about 10 years old, has also been injured in the lightning with thunder and a violent storm.

According to Khilraj Karki, the rural municipality ward-8 vice chair, the lighting struck Tamang in the courtyard of her house, killing her on the spot at around 6:00 pm yesterday. The incident occurred when Tamang had just arrived at home after grazing goats in the nearby fields, Karki informed.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been kept in Gaighat-based Udayapur District Hospital.

It has been learnt that there was power outage for at least six hours in the locality and also the telecommunications had broken down. The ward vice chair Karki said, all means of telecommunications were interrupted as the optical fibres were broken during the road repairing and maintenance carried out on Tuesday.
