Market Now: Midcap index underperforms benchmark Sensex
The NSE Nifty50 index was down 15 points at 10,388, while the BSE Sensex was 5 points down at 33,875.
NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was underperforming benchmark Sensex during Wednesday's trade.

Around 11:20 am (IST), the BSE Midcap index was 0.21 per cent down at 16,617, while the Sensex was 0.02 per cent up at 33,883. The NSE Nifty50 index was 0.12 per cent down at 10,389.

Vakrangee (down 4.98 per cent), Alkem Laboratories (down 2.68 per cent), IDBI Bank (down 2.56 per cent), Bank of India (down 2.51 per cent), Union Bank of India (down 2.27 per cent), Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals (down 1.99 per cent), Canara Bank (down 1.97 per cent), Divi's Laboratories (down 1.95 per cent), TVS Motor Company (down 1.83 per cent), Reliance Infrastructure (down 1.81 per cent), Adani Enterprises (down 1.79 per cent), Indian Bank (down 1.64 per cent) were among the top losers in the midcap index.

On the other hand, NALCO (up 2.15 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power (up 1.76 per cent), Petronet LNG (up 1.61 per cent), Federal Bank (up 1.55 per cent), Torrent Pharmaceuticals (up 1.49 per cent), Page Industries (up 1.26 per cent), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (up 1.14 per cent), RBL Bank (up 1.10 per cent) and IIFL Holdings (up 1.06 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index.

Equity benchmarks were choppy on selling in banking, oil & gas, finance and auto counters.

The NSE Nifty50 index was down 15 points at 10,388, while the BSE Sensex was 5 points down at 33,875.

Adani Ports, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, YES Bank and Axis Bank were the top drags on the Sensex index.

On the other hand, ONGC, Sun Pharma, TCS and Reliance Industries were trading with gains of over 1 per cent in the Sensex kitty of stocks.
