Police open fire at chain-snatcher

Incident took place in Soladevanahalli

The police shot at a 35-year-old chain-snatcher, who tried to attack them in an attempt to escape, in Soladevanahalli.

The accused, Ram Singh, hails from Uttar Pradesh. He was stopped by the police near a check post in Soladevanahalli on Tuesday night. Instead of stopping, he allegedly tried to run over one of the constables. He then jumped off the bike and fled from the spot.

Additional reinforcements arrived at the spot and they began combing the eucalyptus grove where Ram Singh was hiding.

When Nandini Layout Sub-Inspector Somashekhar spotted him, Singh allegedly attacked a constable with a knife. In retaliation, Mr. Somashekhar opened fire at his right leg.

Ram Singh and the injured constable are being treated in a private hospital.

According to the police, Ram Singh would target elderly women. “We have CCTV footage of him robbing women in Bagaluru, Yelahanka and Chikkajala,” said the police, who have recovered a gold chain and a knife from him. They are on the lookout for his associate.
