Tension at railway station as leaders mounted pressure on the Centre to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh

Tension prevailed at the Vijayawada railway station on Wednesday, when leaders and cadre of YSR Congress party tried to organise a ‘rail roko’ (stop train) agitation to mount pressure on the Centre to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Extending their support for the fasting YSR Congress MPs, at Delhi, activists of the party have been staging protests for the last couple of days.

Party leaders Malladi Vishnu and other leaders tried to barge into the railway station and organise a rail roko. However, police took them into custody and foiled their attempt to stop trains.

The Law and Order, Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arranged tight security at the station to prevent entry of the protesters into the station premises.

The arrested agitators were shifted to the nearby police stations.
