CBI arrests 3 NCB officials for bribery

BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two investigating officers (IO) and a constable of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Bhubaneswar in connection with a `1 lakh bribery case.

The probe agency had registered a case following a complaint that an investigating officers of Bhubaneswar, Gyan Prakash had demanded a bribe of `3 lakh from a person whose name allegedly figured in a case under the NDPS Act.

Prakash had assured the complainant that he will remove his name from the case if he paid the bribe and later asked the latter to meet him at Kalinga Nagar. Following the complaint, CBI laid a trap during which the investigating officersaccepted a bribe of `1 lakh from the complainant.

His accomplice Satish Kumar, another IO and constable S Kujur were also arrested during the investigation. When searches were conducted at the premises of accused, it led to recovery of incriminating documents besides 1.024 kg ganja from the office chest of Prakash.

The same was later handed over to the Superintendent of NCB, Sub-Zone, Bhubaneswar for further action. The trio was produced before the Special Judge, CBI, Bhubaneswar and remanded to custody.
