Amal Clooney Just Nabbed Her First Cover for American Vogue Magazine

Lebanese-born human right’s lawyer Amal Clooney has nabbed her first-ever cover for American Vogue magazine, posing in a hot pink Alexander McQueen dress and Cartier jewelry.

The lawyer and activist, who shot to celebrity stardom when she married Hollywood icon George Clooney in 2014, was photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz for the cover of the May 2018 issue.

“One of the many conversations we’ve been having at Vogue lately is about who exactly should be gracing our covers given the radically changed world we now live in. We’ve always taken the position that the women we feature should have substance to them, something that has only taken on greater urgency in the last year or so,” US Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour wrote in her editor’s letter. “That’s why I’m delighted that Amal Clooney, a force to be reckoned with in the realms of international law and human rights, agreed to appear on our May cover.”

For the May 2018 issue, Leibovitz and writer Nathan Heller were welcomed into her Sonning Eye, England, mansion for an at-home interview.

The star was photographed wearing outfits by Rosetta Getty, Oscar de la Renta and Johanna Ortiz.

In the article, she opens up about “her fight for women’s safety, how she balances work and fashion and the moment George decided he wanted to marry her,” according to a post on Vogue’s Instagram account.

Earlier this year, George opened up about his first meeting with Amal, saying they felt an instant attraction.

The American actor gave interesting insight into his first encounter with the high-powered lawyer as he appeared on Netflix’s “My Guest Needs No Introduction” with David Letterman.

“‘I didn’t leave the house,” he said. “No, it’s the wildest thing. A mutual friend of ours said, ‘I’m stopping by and can I bring my friend?’”
“And I was like, ‘Of course.’ I got a call from my agent who… said, ‘I met this woman who’s coming to your house, who you’re gonna marry.’”

He said they “talked all night” and afterwards, exchanged email addresses.

"She's the professional and I'm the amateur," George told Vogue, referring to Amal’s accomplishments in the field of international law and her focus on prosecuting the perpetrators of war crimes. "I get to see someone at the absolute top of their game doing their job better than anybody I've ever seen," he added.

He isn't the only one to be awed by Amal's achievements — it is a long-running joke in Hollywood and the media industry, so much so that at the 2015 Golden Globes, Tina Fey quipped, “Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria and was selected for a three-person UN commission.... So tonight her husband is getting a lifetime-achievement award.”

The A-list couple are parents to twins Alexander and Ella, born in June last year and, according to the interview in Vogue, Amal said the couple has "had some ‘Mamas’ and ‘Dadas.’ George was very careful to ensure that ‘Mama’ was the first word.”
The fashionable lawyer is set to host the upcoming Met Gala, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” alongside Donatella Versace and Rihanna on May 7.

She was born in Beirut, but moved to the UK at the age of two. Her family relocated at the start of the Lebanese civil war in the 1980s.
