BESCOM told to pay Rs 2.4 crore compensation to 5 kids

BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) ordered BESCOM to pay a staggering compensation of Rs 2.4 crore to five children — including families of two deceased children and three others who lost their limbs to electrocution.
The order from KSCPCR came on March 27 and the compensation is to be paid before May 27.
Three of these children also need to be provided robotic arms by BESCOM.
The highest compensation payable is to 17-year-old Cavin (Rs 90 lakh) for loss of arms.
The family of 17-year-old boy Kuberendrappa from Davangere, who died of electrocution, is supposed to receive Rs 25 lakh; and a 14-year-old girl from Vidyaranyapura, who had both her legs burnt and left hand amputated, is supposed to be provided a robotic hand and Rs 50 lakh.
Eight-year-old girl from Nelamangala, who had her left leg injured and a full right arm amputated, is supposed to be provided a robotic arm and Rs 50 lakh.
The family of 13-year-old boy Abdul Razak, who died owing to electrocution in HAL, is supposed to be paid Rs 25 lakh, according to the order.
While BESCOM MD denied agreeing to this order, CM Ashraf, father of Abdul told TNIE, “It’s been two years since Abdul died. I work in a juice shop and can’t take off to run around police station and government offices. I have given up. We had filed a complaint against BESCOM, BBMP and the building owner where my son got electrocuted. I just don’t want this to repeat with other children.”
