In a dramatic twist to Goa Dairy scam allegations row, 8 out of 11 board of directors on Wednesday moved a no-confidence motion against the chairman Madhav Sahakari, following the suspension order issued to managing director Dr Navso Sawant by the chairman on Tuesday.

Dr Sawant meanwhile has refused to step down as managing director, claiming the chairman alone has no power to suspend him at a time when he has lost his majority.

According to Dr Sawant, the chairman has lost his majority and the board of 8 directors had written to him following the board meeting held on April 9. Soon after the meeting the BoD brought a no confidence motion against the chairman on Wednesday and have written to the Registrar to convey a meeting for considering the no confidence motion against the chairman, he said.

Commenting on his ouster as managing director, Dr Sawant said that he has not received any suspension letter and the chairman alone does not have the power to oust him.

Eight out of 11 board of directors have signed the no confidence motion against chairman Sahakari. They include, Vithoba Desai, Aselmo Furtado, Rajesh Fal Dessai, Babuso Desai, Rajendra Sawal, Dhananjay, Gurudas Parab and Naresh Malik. Mismanagement in the functioning of the dairy is said to be the reason for the no confidence motion. It also further states that the chairman has failed to take the board into confidence in the functioning of the dairy which has resulted in huge losses for the company.

Commenting on the managing director’s refusal to step down, Sahakari said that, he had given the suspension order in the presence of various section heads and still Sawant maintains that he has not received the copy.

“As chairman I have the authority to order the suspension of the managing director and I have done it legally. If he fails to step down, I will take legal action against him”, said Sahakari.

Considering the Board of Directors joining hands with the managing director, Sahakari said that there is a need to have free and fair inquiry on the functioning of the dairy.

The chairman further said that the Registrar of cooperative society should dissolve the entire board and the managing director should be kept away from his post while the inquiry is on.

Following the suspension of Dr Sawant as managing director, the newly appointed officer Dr Ajit Kossambe visited the dairy to take charge, but Dr Sawant refused to step down and made the officer to sit outside his office.
