F. Harold Kolda, 76, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Central City, with Father Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors will be provided by the Iowa National Guard.
Harold was born April 10, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Harold and Gwendolyn (Schmidt) Kolda. He graduated from Central City High School in 1960, where he earned many firsts in music contests. Harold proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. On Oct. 31, 1964, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, he was united in marriage to Judy Wolfe. Harold was employed as a superintendent at P&H Harnischfeger, and also was owner/operator of his general construction company, Kolda Construction. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 139 in Springville, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and part of the foot patrol in the El Kahir Shrine. Harold also was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Central City. Harold was a "Good Ole Boy" who loved country music, his family, grandchildren and many friends. He enjoyed playing the electric and steel guitars with several bands throughout the years. He also was a dedicated farmer and pet owner, who loved his dog, Presley.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Andy (Eric) Dettbarn of Monona; son, Kenny Kolda (Cassie) of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Sandra Ochs of Marion; and grandchildren, Dalton and Lexi Dettbarn.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Kristin, in 2016.
A luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the church before Mass on Monday.
