Majhi’s mortal remains were taken to Old Reserve Police Ground where police personnel accorded a guard of honour in the presence of hundreds of locals and district officials. Later, the martyr’s body was taken in a huge procession to Ambodola for the last rites.

SP Rahul said Majhi’s family will get an ex gratia of `31 lakh and other benefits as per Government norms.
Among others, Southern Range DIG S Shynee, CRPF DIG Harjinder Singh Benz, Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar and SP Rahul PR were present.

Majhi was part of the DVF team which was engaged in combing operation in Niyamgiri hill area within Muniguda police limits  from Saturday night.

The team was returning to its base camp on Monday evening when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted by the rebels, went off near Sakata village under Munikhol gram panchayat. The explosion blew off Majhi’s leg and killed him.

Sources said police recovered the severed limb of martyr Majhi and his AK 47 from the explosion site on the day.
