With the arrest of four persons, including one Nigerian, the Delhi Police Special Cell busted an international drug cartel and recovered 29 kgs of heroin. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha said, “We have busted an international drug syndicate and arrested four men. The accused persons have been identified as Jehangir Ahmad Bhat, Gorbachan Singh, Mumtaj and Nnadi K Iheanyi.”

Kushwah said the module supplied heroin from Afghanistan to Nigeria through Pakistan, Jammu & Kashmir and used Delhi as transit point. The module also supplied drugs in Europe as well. Sleuths of the Special Cell had in the recent past busted several drug cartels, which used Delhi as a transit point.

“We received an information that some men from Kashmir will come to Delhi to supply heroin to a man of Afghan origin. On March 26 based on technical surveillance, the team apprehended Jehangir from Paschim Vihar area and recovered 11 kg heroin. He told police that the drugs were given to him by Gorbachan. Three days later, Gorbachan was caught from the Vikaspuri area,” the DCP said.

With his arrest, police found out the modus operandi of the gang. “The consignment of drugs were delivered to Afghan national in Delhi who further delivered it to some Nigerian nationals, who finally smuggled it out of India to Europe and other parts of the globe,” said the DCP.

Police managed to arrest Mumtaj, a resident of Afghanistan on March 31. Police said that he told cops that he got directions from Pakistan and Afghanistan to receive heroin in India and to deliver the same to some specific persons. He revealed that he had supplied a huge consignment to one Nigerian on the direction of Azlam, who is based in Pakistan. He also revealed that this heroin is manufactured in Jalalabad in Afghanistan, in a factory owned by an Afghan national. The contraband was then shipped to Azlam who finally pushed the consignment to J&K, Kushwah said.

On April 6, Nigerian national Nnadi K Iheanyi was arrested from Najafgarh road in Nangli. “At his instance, 15 kgs of heroin were recovered from his room in Nawada. He disclosed that he works for an international syndicate operated by Nigerian nationals and used to procure drugs from suppliers in Delhi. Once the consignment was smuggled, the gang used to smuggle heroin to Europe and Middle East through their conduits.
