People get huge relief from heat as mercury dips

Following widespread rainfall in various parts of the State over the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature has dipped considerably, giving the people relief from the summer heat which started to grow following a long dry spell. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature dipped by several notches and settled at 28.7  degree Celsius, two degree below  the normal. The highest maximum temperature of the State 31.6°C was recorded at Jolly Grant while the lowest minimum temperature 7°C was recorded at Nainital. The meteorological centre has forecast another wet spell- rain accompanied by hail/squall-  for isolated places in the State for two days since April 10.

In Dehradun, rain lashed some places during the morning hours on Monday while the sky remained cloudy till noon after which the sun came out.   While the maximum temperature settled at 28.7 degree Celsius the minimum hovered at 18.6 degree Celsius in the city on the day.

A meteorological centre official said that very light to moderate rainfall occurred at many places in Uttarakhand. By 8.30 am on Monday, 30 mm rainfall was reported in Haldwani while 10 mm each in Nainital, Gairsain and Jollygrant.

U'khand meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Monday that the effect of the fresh western disturbance would continue to be active in the western Himalayan region for the next three days.

The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Tuesday is light to moderate rain/thunderstorm at many places, especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts. The weather forecast for Dehradun  is partly to generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain/thunderstorm accompanied with hail/thunder squall lashing some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 degree Celsius and 18 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Tuesday. 

As per the chart sent by the weather department, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 29 degree Celsius and 17 degree Celsius, respectively.

 In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 16.2 degree Celsius and 9.9 degree Celsius. In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 17.6 degree Celsius and 12 degree Celsius respectively.
