Mariners place 1B Healy (ankle) on DL

The Seattle Mariners' run of early-season injuries continued Monday when the team placed first baseman Ryon Healy on the 10-day disabled list.

Healy sprained his right ankle during a postgame workout on Saturday and was slated to undergo an MRI exam. The club hasn't yet revealed the results but went ahead and placed him on the DL, retroactive to April 8.

Healy joins designated hitter Nelson Cruz (ankle), outfielder Ben Gamel (oblique) and catcher Mike Zunino (oblique) on the DL.

Seattle recalled right-hander Chasen Bradford from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the roster spot. Bradford, 28, spent time with the New York Mets last season and went 2-0 with a 3.74 in 28 relief appearances.

Healy was acquired from the Oakland Athletics during the offseason and was off to a slow start. He delivered a three-run double during Saturday's victory over the Minnesota Twins and that hit was just his second in 22 at-bats.

Healy, 26, batted .271 with 25 homers and 78 RBIs last season.

Healy also suffered a setback in mid-February when he underwent surgery to remove a bone spur from this right hand.
