Some of the most popular music videos on YouTube have been taken over by hackers, including the record-breaking Spanish-language music video Despacito, after accounts for streaming site Vevo were hacked.

Hackers took over a number of channels associated with Vevo, the video hosting service, changing the names of the videos and replacing them with figures in masks wielding machine guns.

The video for Despacito, on the Vevo channel for Puerto Rican pop star Luis Fonsi, was briefly deleted, having previously amassed more than 5bn views, the most of any YouTube video. 

The hackers left text on the videos reading "free Palestine" and changed the video names to "hacked by" followed by a list of aliases...
