The market breadth was in favour of the declines with 841 stocks advancing while 863 declined and 342 remained unchanged. On the other hand, in the BSE, 1262 stocks advanced and 1342 declined and 137 remained unchanged.
The Indian equity market continued to trade on a positive note on Tuesday afternoon with the Nifty adding 31 points at 10,410 mark while the Sensex was up 103 points or 0.3 percent.
The Nifty metal index jumped over 2 percent after US sanctions on Rusal lift aluminium to four-week high. The top gainers included Hindalco Industries which zoomed close to 4 percent followed by NALCO which was up 2.7 percent.
The other gainers were Tata Steel, Hindustan Copper, NMDC, Vedanta, Steel Authority of India and Coal India.
The top Nifty gainers included ICICI Bank and Axis Bank which jumped over 4 percent each followed by Hindalco Industries which jumped close to 3 percent. Adani Ports, ICICI Bank and Tata Steel were the other performers.
The most active Nifty stocks included Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel and Infosys.
The top BSE gainers included Tata Steel which zoomed 10 percent followed by Balrampur Chini which added 7.6 percent. Nilkamal, Bajaj Hindustan and Praj Industries were the other gainers.
24 stocks hit new 52-week high in the afternoon trade including Bharat Financial Inclusion, Divis Labs, Avenue Supermarts, Pidilite Industries and IndusInd Bank.
