1948
Delphine Jewell was elected editor of the Senior Oriole; Tom Norton, managing editor; Pat Swaney and Jane Gillespey, lay-out; Jerry Rogers and Shirley Bacon, proof readers; Rolly Boucher, Clifford Boucher, Barbara Dine, Ed Fisher, Lee Guthrie, Wanda Harris, Dorothy Hime, Kathleen Lewis, Velva McGavock, Nancy Miffin, Earlene Punke, Bernice St. Clair, Beulah Scott, and Joyce Wilber, reporters.
Local fisherman were on the look out for “Old Gramp”, a large fish that had been taunting anglers for a couple of years on the Whitewater River near Augusta.
Showing at the Augusta Theatre was “Sitting Pretty” starring Robert  Young and Maureen O’Hara.
60 YEARS AGO
1958
George Bruening, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, was leaving for a position in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The City Council approved the annexation of the Northern Heights Addition.
Former Senator F.H. Cron, president of the Butler County Historical Society, presented a portrait of Senator Andrew Pickens Butler of South Carolina, after whom this county was named, to the County Commission for the purpose of displaying it in a prominent place at the courthouse.
50 YEARS AGO
1968
Mrs. Warren Grist won the use of a new Ford Mustang for an entire week from Brooks-McKnight Ford Company.
Mary Kay Carter was selected the Chapter Sweetheart of the South Butler County Order of Demolays.
Mike Penney would be leading the AHS track team in the Wichita State Relays by entering the 100, 220, and 880-yard runs.

1978
Delegates to the Annual Sunflower Girls’ State were Lisa Blake, Annette Baugher, and Janine Calvert.
William P. “Bill” Lytton of Augusta was retiring as County Treasurer.
Sandi Simmons of Augusta was crowned Miss Butler County at the annual scholarship pageant.
30 YEARS AGO
1988
Augusta’s Little League Wrestling Club returned home with three state placers; Mike Stockbauer, Steve Luinstra, and Bryan Stiverson.
Doug Poage, AHS graduate, would be starring in a musical production at Six Flags.
The new members of the AHS Citizenship A were Jennifer Hillier, Chad Corneil, Aaron Sayler, Barry Marshall, Roger Tran, Lisa Lamphier, Leah Weaver, and Crysta Hudson.

1998
The City Council turned  down a re-zoning request in the 1000 block of Lulu on plans for 64 apartments on a 5-acre tract.
Ross Rountree was the runaway winner in the mayor’s race with 909 out of 1,389 votes cast.
The Last Supper was re-enacted at Haverhill Christian Church.

2008
Former corrections officer Amber Goff of Augusta, pleaded guilty to a federal firearms charge and admitted that she gave guns to two inmates to help their escape from the El Dorado Correctional Facility.
After 21 years, Jeannie Ball turned over the keys to Shear Designs to new owner Tracy Eberhardt.
Ten airplane pilots, part of the Kansas Air Tour 2008, dropped by the Augusta Municipal Airport.
