To lead a lavish lifestyle, a 24-year-old man, along with his 22-year-old girlfriend, cheated people into giving their cars for servicing and steal. The Delhi Police caught this real life Bunty and Babli after they received a complaint at the Tilak Nagar police station.
Police identified the arrested man as Devender Prasad works as a financial consultant with a private bank at Pitampura. However, the identity of girl was not divulged.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said the couple used to pose as executives of an automobile dealer and took away the cars on the pretext of car servicing.
According to police, they got a complaint on March 6. They complainant said his K10 car was taken for servicing by a person claiming to an executive of an automobile dealer and was not returned. When the complainant cross checked with the Mayapuri Branch of the automobile dealer, he found that the branch did not send any executive.
Following the complaint, a team under ACP Tilak Nagar was formed. The team scanned through more than a 100 CCTV cameras as well as the Call Detail Records. The cops tracked the owner of the mobile phone through which the complainant received the call from the girl, DCP added.
Police managed to arrest the accused on Saturday from Ring Road. “During interrogation, the accused revealed that they are in relationship for the past five years and were planning to get married. Last year, in July, he stole a bike from his teacher in Nihal Vihar area and fixed a fake number plate. This gave him the confidence and he along with his girlfriend hatched a plan to cheat people and flee with their cars on the pretext of getting it serviced and later sold it the grey market. Police said the girl bought old phones from drug addicts and used a fake SIM card through which she called several people,” said a senior police officer.
Police said with their arrest, police have recovered a K10 Car, 6 mobiles phones and a stolen motorcycle from their possession. Police said since the girl had earlier worked in an automobile showroom, she was well-versed with how to approach the victims.
