Thirunavukkarasar says the onus is on the Centre to set up the Cauvery Board

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su. Thirunavukkarasar on Monday said the Congress government in Karnataka cannot be faulted over the Cauvery row now.

‘Centre to blame’

Speaking in Udhagamandalam en route to Gudalur where the Congress staged a protest demanding the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar contended that it was the Central Government that had failed to set up the Board despite the Supreme Court’s order in February.

He said that the Congress government in Karnataka could be criticised only after the Cauvery Management Board was instituted and if the orders passed by it were not implemented.

“If this happens (Karnataka violating SC directive on the Cauvery Management Board), we will speak directly to Siddaramaiah as well as Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and ensure that any orders passed on the CMB are implemented,” he said when questioned by reporters as to why the Congress was not pressuring the Karnataka government to share water with Tamil Nadu.
