CUTTACK: Commissionerate Police on Monday took Ashish Kumar Behera alias Kanoli, principal associate of Dhal Samanta brothers on one-day remand to interrogate him into the recent firing at Subhadrapur under Cuttack Sadar police limits.Police had sought permission of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, (JMFC), Cuttack (Rural) to take the 32-year-old antisocial and hardcore criminal of Chauliaganj Thatari Sahi. Kanoli has been impleaded in the attempt to murder contractor Bijan Pal of Subhadrapur. He will be interrogated about the source of imported arms and ammunition to unravel the modus operandi of the trade.

“The criminal is being grilled to ascertain the source of arms and ammunition used in the murder attempt on Pal. We are trying to obtain information about illegal arms business of Dhal Samant brothers - Sushant and Susil,” said DCP Akhilesvar Singh. Kanoli was absconding after the arrest of Dhal Samant brothers in 2016 and had holed up in New Delhi to evade police arrest.
