DVF personnel killed in landmine blast in Odisha

A district voluntary force (DVF) personnel was killed in a landmine blast that was triggered by the Maoists in Odisha's district, police said today.

The incident happened when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the Maoists went off near Sakata village under the jurisdiction of station yesterday night, the police said.

The jawan was a part of a team that had gone to the area, within limits of station, for a public interface programme, to gain confidence of the local people of Niyamgiri, they said.

"He had joined the police force as a contractual constable. He was inducted in the DVF in August 2017 after he completed the basic training and anti-extremists training course," said of Police of Y Jagannath Rao.

The deceased personnel was given a of honour in presence of top police and CRPF officials, at the district headquarters town of Rayagada, today, a said.

He also said that the family of the deceased will be provided an ex-gratia of around Rs 27 lakh and land for construction of a house.
