Designated Survivor showrunner Keith Eisner promised us that war was coming, and it looks like it's here!
On this week's episode of Designated Survivor, President Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) goes before the American people again with an update on the dirty bomb that killed six federal agents, including John Forstell (Reed Diamond). And then Tom gets real serious.
In the exclusive clip above, Tom reveals that it was the fictional country of Kunami which was responsible for the attack on American soil. You'll recall that Kunami was the Middle Eastern country involved in the international incident in the episode "Two Ships" when a U.S. Navy ship was stranded in waters just outside the Persian Gulf, and they don't take too kindly to the United States.

In response, Kirkman drops a bomb of his own: The U.S. has launched missile strikes on strategic sites in Kunami, and will continue to do so until the Emir surrenders unconditionally. Then Kirkman goes off script and pretty much declares war on Kunami, much to the chagrin of his staff who do not like the word "war" used. Kirkman isn't interested in semantics, though, and says war is what they asked for, war is what they're getting.
Designated Survivor airs Wednesday nights at 10/9c on ABC.
