The U.S. Geological Survey says it has recorded a 6.2 magnitude earthquake near the city of Ovalle in Chile.

The quake was detected at a depth of 76.1 kilometers (47.3 miles), 54 kilometers southwest of Ovalle on Tuesday.

There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
