John L. Heimer, 73,  passed on Sunday, April 8, at his home in Mayfield.
John was born the son of Price W. and Elizabeth M. (Kimsey) Heimer on Saturday, October 14, 1944 in Winfield. He graduated from Winfield High School and furthered his education at Southwestern College and Pittsburg State University where he graduated with a Masters degree.
On January 20, 1968, John and Cheryl Hale were united in marriage in Winfield. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
John was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired following a 25 year career. Outside of work, he enjoyed being in his woodworking shop and traveling the country; however, he loved spending time with his family and, in particular, his grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Heimer of Wellington; daughter, Margo Wicke of Topeka; son Erich Heimer and his wife Taresa of Wellington; daughter, Anna Powell of Petal, Mississippi; sister, Sharon Zimmerman of Bonner Springs, grandchildren: Jack Heimer of Wellington, Riley Powell, Payton Powell and Jalen Powell all of Petal, Mississippi, uncles: Vernon Kimsey and his wife Violet of Hutchinson, Don Kimsey of Winfield, Albert Kimsey, Jr. and his wife Connie of Arkansas City, aunts: Maxine Barrett of Shawnee, and Margaret Carter of Arkansas City; many nieces, nephews and cousins along with his best friends: Andrea Day and Bob DeJarnett and Richard and Karen Peralez.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dick Zimmerman.
Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
Memorial services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018 in the chapel of Cornejo|Day Funeral Home, Wellington.
Interment will follow at the Osborne Cemetery, Mayfield.
A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the Mayfield Federated Church. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
