Cape Town - South African referee Victor Gomes rejected a $30 000 (R362 822) bribe to fix a CAF Confederation Cup first-leg match between Nigerian side Plateau United and Algeria’s USM Alger.
According to the TimesLIVE website, the matter is under investigation after Gomes reported the incident to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
At this stage the parties involved remain unknown.
Assisting Gomes was Johannes Moshidi and Athenkosi Ndongeni, while Thando Ndzandzeka was the fourth official for the fixture that took place in Lagos, Nigeria.
United won the match 2-1 with the second-leg set for Tuesday, April 17.
Senegal referee Maguette N'Diaye will be the referee on the day.
