New rewards are coming to players later today, if the latest Pokemon Go news is to be believed.

Arriving from Japan, the latest information suggests a new Pokemon Go Kanto Event is kicking off today.

April 10 will see a range of new bonuses go live, although only a for a limited amount of time.

The Kanto Event will run from April 10 to 16, with new special boxes also being launched in the Pokemon Store.

From what can be gleaned from the Pokemon Go Japanese notification, The Kanto starter Pokemon will see boosted spawn rates.

There wasn’t any news on new Shiny Pokemon going live, although Niantic never usually announce them as part of an event.

Past celebrations have seen them go live without Niantic saying anything about them, so variant fans shouldn’t be too worried.

The Kanto Event will also include double transfer and catch candy, meaning the coming week will be a great time to evolve your chosen Pocket Monsters.

These bonuses should also coincide with the upcoming Community Day, which will mean even more Candy for Mareep hunters.

New Kanto themed Raids also look set to launch this week, with Snorlax and Aerodactyl both listed for release.

In terms of timing, it’s still currently unclear when this new event will go live in the UK.

The chances are that something will be announced by Niantic in the next few hours, confirming the launch schedule.

If past events are anything to go by, Pokemon Trainers in the UK could be waiting until the late afternoon before they can start building up those Candy reserves.

A rather rough Google Translate can be found below from the Pokemon Go Japan Site:

“During the event period, Pokemon, Fushigidane, Lizard, and Zenigame seem to appear more than usual "Can Tho Region" Pokemon. Also in the raid battle, Pokemon of "Can Tho region" such as Ptera and Cabigon will appear!

“In addition, during the period, the number of "Pokemon's Crow" that you can get when you catch Pokemon or send it to Ph.D. will be doubled as usual. On this occasion, let's evolve Pokemon of "Can Tho region" more and more!

“In the in-game shop, we offer a gift box containing "premium raid pass" for a limited time only.

“By all means, on this occasion where many Pokemon of "Can Tho" emerge, let's challenge to win "Gold medal" gold rank! If the rank of "Canto medal" goes up, research on "special research" pursuing the figure of the phantom Pokemon "Miu" may also proceed.”

As mentioned above, more details will be released by Niantic later today, providing the official news in English.

The last line from the translation also makes for interesting reads, as it appears to reference getting the Kanto Medal to Gold to progress in the current Mew Research quests.
