Zee out, Amar Singh interested in Agri Gold
Hyderabad: The scam-hit Agri Gold issue took another turn in the High Court on Monday with the Subhash Chandra Foundation of Essel-Zee group backing out of its offer to take over the company claiming it would be ‘economically unviable’. It cited that while the firm’s assets were valued at Rs 2,496 crore, debts were about Rs 10,000 crore.Further, the group told the court that political leader Amar Singh was interested in the matter and would hold discussions with the Andhra Pradesh government. It urged the court to grant another 10 weeks time for the purpose. Senior counsel Sriraghuram, representing the group, filed an affidavit in this regard. The bench, while rejecting the plea seeking more time, said that it was not concerned with the persons who were behind the screen. There was no objection if the state government was willing to take over the company, it noted and sought the government’s response. The counsel said that when some of the depositors met Amar Singh, the latter showed interest. He even told them that the government could also be a partner in doing justice to the depositors. The bench said the issue would be resolved only if the God or the government intervened, and adjourned the case to April 25.
